The Hip-Spine Connection: Why Tight Hips Destroy Your Back

Your hips are the foundation that your spine balances on.

When they move well, the lumbar spine stays neutral and happy.

When they tighten (especially the psoas and glutes), the lumbar discs get crushed.

🦴 The Anatomy Behind It

  • The psoas attaches to L1–L5 → when tight, it pulls the spine forward
  • The glutes stabilize the sacrum → when weak, sacrum becomes unstable
  • The TFL & QL compensate → creating rotation + tension
  • Hip mobility = lumbar decompression
  • Hip stiffness = lumbar overload

🔥 What Tight Hips Cause

  • Lower-back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Groin pain
  • Hamstring tightness
  • Poor posture
  • Pelvic tilt
  • Hip clicking or pinching

💡 The Daily 2-Minute Hip-Spine Reset

1️⃣ Kneel → shift hips forward gently

2️⃣ Inhale through your nose → expand ribcage

3️⃣ Exhale through your mouth → let psoas release

4️⃣ Add gentle glute squeeze

5️⃣ Hold 90 seconds each side

“Most low back pain starts in the hips — not the lumbar spine.”
