PSO-SPROCKET™ & PSO-CONNECTOR™ — Modular Recovery: How Combining Tools Amplifies Results
Introduction: The Power of the System
Throughout this blog series, we've explored each PSO-RITE® tool individually. Each is powerful on its own. But the PSO-RITE® product line was designed with a deeper philosophy in mind: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
The PSO-SPROCKET™ and PSO-CONNECTOR™ are the tools that bring this philosophy to life — allowing you to combine, customize, and amplify your recovery in ways that no single tool can achieve alone.
What Is the PSO-SPROCKET™?
The PSO-SPROCKET™ is a specialized myofascial release tool designed to deliver a unique rolling and rotating pressure to muscle tissue. Unlike tools that apply static or linear pressure, the PSO-SPROCKET™'s distinctive design creates a dynamic, multi-directional release that penetrates tissue in a fundamentally different way.
How the PSO-SPROCKET™ Works
The PSO-SPROCKET™'s unique shape creates a combination of compression and shear forces as it moves across the tissue. This multi-directional pressure is particularly effective at:
- Breaking up cross-fiber adhesions — restrictions that run perpendicular to the muscle fibers and are resistant to linear rolling
- Stimulating mechanoreceptors — the sensory receptors in the fascia that trigger a neurological release response
- Increasing tissue hydration — dynamic movement drives fluid into the fascial matrix more effectively than static pressure alone
- Addressing fascial restrictions in multiple planes — real-world movement happens in three dimensions, and fascial restrictions often do too
Key Muscles Targeted by the PSO-SPROCKET™
- Thoracic paraspinals — mid-back muscles accumulating tension from desk work and training
- Glutes and piriformis — deep hip muscles contributing to sciatic pain and hip restriction
- Quadriceps and IT band — large muscles of the front and outer thigh
- Calves and peroneals — lower leg muscles critical for ankle mobility and running efficiency
- Pectorals — chest muscles contributing to rounded shoulders and poor posture
What Is the PSO-CONNECTOR™?
The PSO-CONNECTOR™ is the modular linking system that transforms individual PSO-RITE® tools into a customized, integrated recovery apparatus. It allows you to connect tools together to create configurations that address larger areas, apply more complex pressure patterns, and target multiple muscle groups simultaneously.
What the PSO-CONNECTOR™ Makes Possible
- Extended coverage — Connect two tools to cover a larger surface area in a single position.
- Bilateral simultaneous release — Release both sides of the paraspinal muscles simultaneously, doubling efficiency.
- Custom pressure configurations — Different tool combinations create different pressure profiles tailored to your needs.
- Progressive loading — As your body adapts, connecting tools increases complexity and intensity.
The Science of Modular Recovery
Fascia is a three-dimensional web that connects every structure in the body — and restrictions within it rarely exist in isolation. A restriction in one area creates tension throughout the connected fascial network, affecting structures far from the original site.
Single-tool release addresses one point of restriction at a time. Multi-tool, modular release addresses multiple points simultaneously — working with the interconnected nature of the fascial system rather than against it. Think of it like tuning a guitar: you can tune one string at a time, but to get the instrument truly in tune, you need to address all the strings together.

How to Use the PSO-SPROCKET™
Basic Technique
- Position the PSO-SPROCKET™ on the target muscle.
- Apply body weight gradually, allowing the tool to sink into the tissue.
- Allow the PSO-SPROCKET™ to rotate and move in multiple directions — following the natural contours of the muscle.
- Pause at areas of restriction and hold tender spots for 30–60 seconds, breathing deeply.
Thoracic Paraspinal Release
- Lie on your back and position the PSO-SPROCKET™ across your mid-back.
- Gently rotate your upper body left and right, allowing multi-directional release in the thoracic paraspinals.
- Work from T12 up to T1, spending 30–60 seconds at each segment.
Glute and Piriformis Release
- Sit on the floor and position the PSO-SPROCKET™ under one glute.
- Cross the ankle of that leg over the opposite knee to expose the piriformis.
- Allow body weight to apply pressure and slowly shift to explore different areas of the glute.
How to Use the PSO-CONNECTOR™
Bilateral Spinal Release
- Connect two PSO-RITE® tools using the PSO-CONNECTOR™, positioning them parallel on either side of the spine.
- Lie on your back and allow body weight to apply simultaneous pressure to both sides of the paraspinal muscles.
- Hold for 60–90 seconds per spinal segment, working from lumbar up through thoracic.
Extended Lumbar Release
- Connect tools end-to-end to create an extended release surface across your lower back.
- The extended surface releases a larger area of the lumbar paraspinals in a single position.
Building a Modular Recovery Session
Beginner (15 minutes): PSO-SPROCKET™ thoracic release (3 min) + PSO-CONNECTOR™ bilateral lumbar release (3 min) + PSO-SPROCKET™ glute release (2 min per side) + PSO-RITE® psoas release (3 min)
Intermediate (25 minutes): PSO-CONNECTOR™ bilateral spinal release full spine (8 min) + PSO-SPROCKET™ thoracic and glute release (6 min) + PSO-RITE® psoas release (3 min) + PSO-KEY® trigger point work (5 min) + PSO-MINI® targeted release (3 min)
Advanced Full-System (40 minutes): PSO-CONNECTOR™ bilateral full-spine release (10 min) + PSO-SPROCKET™ multi-directional release (10 min) + PSO-RITE® psoas release (5 min) + PSO-BACK® lumbar and QL release (5 min) + PSO-KEY® trigger point therapy (5 min) + PSO-NECK® cervical release (5 min)
What to Expect
- First session: Immediately notice the difference between single-tool and multi-tool release. The bilateral and multi-directional pressure creates a more comprehensive release you can feel throughout your body.
- Week 1–2: Areas resistant to single-tool treatment begin to respond. The multi-directional approach reaches restrictions that linear tools couldn't access.
- Week 3–4: Cumulative improvements in whole-body mobility and tissue quality extend far beyond the areas directly treated.
- Month 2+: The modular system becomes your go-to for comprehensive recovery sessions.
Conclusion: More Than the Sum of Its Parts
The PSO-SPROCKET™ and PSO-CONNECTOR™ represent the evolution of self-myofascial release — from individual tool use to a sophisticated, integrated system that works with the complexity of the human body.
Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Your body is unique, your restrictions are specific, and your recovery needs change over time. The modular PSO-RITE® system gives you the flexibility to meet those needs — wherever you are in your recovery journey.
The whole truly is greater than the sum of its parts.
